Want to customize your pint?

We all have our preferences and favorite memories when it comes to ice cream. Some folks love it chock full of cookies, some are purists and want it plain, but maybe you've been dreaming about a flavor that's never been made? Well, now with our 3 ice cream bases - vanilla bean, chocolate, and strawberry, you can create the ice cream flavor of your dreams!

Before you get crazy in the kitchen, read the below tips and tricks when it comes to customizing your ice cream. We've made every mistake in the book so you don't have to!

ICE CREAM DO'S

  • Use fresh, cold full-fat half & half and only the required amount, 1 cup.
  • If you’re using a hand mixer – mix on low speed for 1 minute and then on high speed for 4 minutes.
  • If you’re using a stand mixer (like a KitchenAid) – mix on low for 1 minute, then on medium speed for 4 minutes. (Stand mixers are more powerful and will create too much volume!)
  • Set your freezers to the coldest setting and make sure it’s organized so there’s proper air flow. Yours should ideally be at 5 degrees or lower.
  • Let your ice cream freeze for the required amount of time and in the back of the freezer where it’s the coldest.
  • Sprinkle in bigger mix-ins mid way through freezing so they won't sink so far.
  • Have fun and experiment!

ICE CREAM DON'TS

  • Don't use water, nut milks, whole milk, cream, or other types of milk. They don’t have the right fat content and will affect the taste, and texture of your ice cream.
  • Don’t freeze your pint in the door of the freezer or stuff it into a packed freezer. Your ice cream needs proper air flow (as do all your other food items) to freezer properly and efficiently.
  • Don’t shake or stir your pint once it’s in the freezer. It will cause the ice cream to deflate.
  • Add too many mix-ins or you'll overflow the pint and they may sink because of the weight.
  • Don't throw away an ice cream fail! Put it in the blender and make a milkshake!

Here's a table of recommended measurements when adding in flavors and goodies to make a custom pint of ice cream.

Items that make better toppings, blended into milkshakes, or floats:

  • Fresh Fruit like berries, apples, peaches
  • Liquid swirls like caramel, hot fudge, etc
  • Soda/Juice/Liquid Beverages
  • Pudding
